European Master in Health Economics and Management

In short
The European Master in Health Economics and Management (Eu-HEM) is a distinctive two-year master’s programme offered by four partner universities. This programme equips you for careers in staff and executive roles within organizations and institutions engaged in national and international healthcare provision, such as national hospitals, international pharmaceutical companies, aid organizations, government agencies, research institutions, and more.
The international and interdisciplinary focus are key
Eu-HEM is a top-notch programme in which we take advantage of each universities’ strengths. By partnering with four universities, we assure a quality programme covering topics as health economics, healthcare management, health policy but also health law and regulation. In addition, you will acquire essential skills in analytical methods.
Key in succeeding in the global healthcare sector is awareness of societal relevance of healthcare and the constraints imposed by social rules, regulations and the law. Topics we will cover widely.
Structure
Four semesters, four universities and 120 ECTS
All students start their first semester in Bologna. This semester will set the base and starts in September. You will achieve basic knowledge of health economics, healthcare management but also the relation to international law. After this semester, your first 30 ECTS are safe.
Second and third semester: your personal track
From the second semester on, it’s up to you. You decide on your field of interest and select your specialisation. The chosen specialisation will lead you to two different universities offering your track. Please keep in mind that we can select max. 35 students per track.
- Health Economics & Policy: Oslo (2nd semester) & Bologna (3rd semester)
- Economic Evaluation in Healthcare: Rotterdam (2nd semester) & Oslo (3rd semester)
- Management of Healthcare institutions: Oslo (2nd semester) & Innsbruck (3rd semester)
- Population Health Management: Innsbruck (2nd semester) & Rotterdam (3rd semester
Finish with your thesis
The fourth semester is fully dedicated to your master thesis. You will write about a topic related to your track. With your thesis you show that you can perform scientific research and are able to report and discuss the study and its conclusions is a clear way.

Two years of hard work are rewarded
The programme is about handing you the knowledge, tools and experience you need to kickstart your career in the international field of healthcare. Upon successful completion of the programme, you will be awarded with the degree ‘European Master in Health Economics and Management’. Of course, you will receive a joint diploma, recognised by all four universities.

Admission
Admission requirements
We can around 80 students per year. In order to get your admission, you need:
- a higher education entrance qualification and a completed bachelor’s degree comparable to a Norwegian bachelor’s degree
- a minimum grade average of C in the Norwegian grading scale or equivalent from your bachelor’s degree
- proof of English language proficiency documented by an internationally recognised English language proficiency test.

Application
Apply to the University of Oslo or to MCI | The entrepreneurial School®
Your application will be processed in a joint admission process. Preferably, you will apply through the University of Oslo. However, if you missed their application deadline, you can also apply through MCI | The Entrepreneurial School®. Since your application is assessed by the same team, the result of your application will be the same. Independently of where you applied.

Enrolment by Erasmus University Rotterdam
When your application is finalized, Erasmus University takes over. They will provide you with information about your enrolment and details about the payment. You can expect the information mid-May.
The University of Bologna about the start
Things get exciting when you receive your first information from the University of Bologna. They will inform you about the start of your master’s programme. You can expect their information also mid-May.

As an EU/EEA student you will pay your participation fees at the University of Oslo. For all other students, you will pay your fees at Erasmus University Rotterdam. The deadline for paying the fees is the 1st of July.
A small side note:
- Participation fees may change slightly due to inflation
- Participation fees are excluding bank transfer fees
- You need to be able to finance your studies independently, as no (full) scholarships are available. Please find more information about the Erasmus+ scholarship below “grant”.
- Norwegian students applying for student loans at the Norwegian State Eductinal Loan Fund are recommended to appy for eduction outsite the Nordic region.

Which track suits you?
In the first semester, we lay the foundation by covering topics such as economics, management, statistics, and econometrics, along with introductions to ethics, political science, and law.
From the second semester onward, you can choose your field of expertise from four different tracks. Your selected track will determine the cities where you will study.

Unlike other master’s programmes, we offer additional events. These include the Welcome Days at the beginning of the programme in Bologna, where you will meet all students and staff.
